Medical Collection Box
Prescott Surgery has recently purchased a new Medication Collection Box. The Medication Collection Box allows eligible patients enhanced flexibility and choice by allowing 24/7 collections.
When medication is ready to collect, patients will receive a text containing their unique collection code to enter at the Box which will prompt for payment (if applicable) and then release their medication.
Who can use the collection box?
For many patients, the Box will be a more flexible alternative than being restricted to collecting during usual opening hours. Unfortunately, patients who are regularly prescribed the following will not be able to use the Box:
- fridge items,
- locked controlled drugs, or
- whose orders are too large or too heavy to fit safely in the Box.
These patients will be able to discuss other alternatives with the dispensary staff.
The sign-up process
To sign up to use the 24/7 Medication Collection Box, patients will need to complete a form. Click here (PDF) for a copy of the sign-up form.
The sign-up paperwork will ask patients to provide:
- A mobile number (it does not need to be a smartphone, and it can be someone else’s mobile number who can collect medication on the patient’s behalf); and
- Their exemption status (so the Box knows whether the patient usually pays for their medication).
Patients can return forms or seek assistance, during opening hours, at the dispensary.

How to use the box
Within 7 working days of you ordering your medication, you will receive a text when it is ready to be collected from the Box. This text will contain your unique collection PIN.
- STEP 1 – Enter your PIN from your text message using the yellow numbers on the keypad. Press ‘ok’. If you pay for medication, go to STEP 2. If you do not pay for medication, go to STEP 3.
- STEP 2 – Pay. If you pay for your medication, follow the contactless payment instructions. Be patient whilst the Box selects your package.
- STEP 3 – When your medication has been dispensed a light will flash underneath the blue flap door at the bottom of the Box. Push the blue flap door to open and retrieve your package. The flap is only open for 60 seconds.
REMEMBER:
- After 60 seconds the flap will lock shut. If you have not removed your package your medication will become locked inside the collection bay, and the Box becomes unusable by others until someone attends to unlock it.
- The collection code expires After 3 days. Patients will get a reminder text when there is just 24 hours left for them to collect their medication. After 3 days have passed, all packages with expired codes will be removed from the Box and returned to the dispensary where it will be available for collection during opening hours.
- Change of information form. It is important that you let us know of any changes to your mobile phone number or exemption status as soon as possible. You can complete the Change of Patient Information form and hand it in to the dispensary. For a copy, click here (PDF).
